This match report begins just as soon as you’ve out some earphones in.

Got them? Comfy? Hit play.

This track is about four minutes long. The challenge for busy lives is to jam as much of the good stuff in without the thing toppling down around you. Start letting the good stuff slide and you’ll soon be in the Scheiße. But make no mistake, Rovers is the good stuff, so I’m just going to write for four minutes and give you what goes.

The noise is a remix of a Four Tet tune, the DJ that Andy Liu went to see at Berghain till the wee hours of Saturday morning on the eve of his long-awaited Rovers debut. I chose it because Andy, who’s now called Louis to avoid confusion, managed to get himself to the pitch both on time and in good enough nick to put in an impressive performance, claiming an assist along the way.

But if Louis was the heartbeat of this performance, which saw goals from Ben Wuyts (flashing header), Stephen Fanning (debut single out now) and Alexis Lannoy (leaping salmon header), then Andrew Weber was surely the architect. He stepped in at left back at the last minute and later switched to a defensive midfield role to snuff out Pulmon Negro’s major channel of attack, the ball from deep to the chippy forward up front.

He was everywhere. He saw everything. He had time to both put in a good rugby tackle over on the right wing and patiently micro-manage Paul French’s achingly slow midfield positioning learning curve on the left. And while there are a trifecta of claims for the man of the match (notably Schumann – happy birthday, soldier – and Louis) and the vote is technically still open, it’s going to Weber, because of reasons.

Man of the Match: Weber
